Economic Development

The key to a vibrant Ward 2 is economic development at the neighborhood level. Areas like Downtown and Chinatown, which were once desolate and dangerous places, now thrive with commercial and residential activity. By supporting retail large and small, and by working to create jobs and opportunities for District residents, we can be sure that Ward 2 will continue to be the area where people and businesses move.

I have worked tirelessly during my time on the Council to bring major economic development to Ward 2. From our world class Convention Center and soon-to-open Convention Center Hotel, from Downtown’s City Center project and Square 54 in Foggy Bottom and the thriving Verizon Center, Ward 2's anchor projects have brought a social and economic renaissance to all of our community's neighborhoods.

It is also vital to the health of our city that we focus our efforts on neighborhood commercial corridors like 14th Street in Logan Circle, 17th Street in Dupont Circle, and M Street in Georgetown. Streetscape projects in Logan and Dupont have resulted in major improvements including new locally owned restaurants, a re-energized and safer nightlife, and increased access for residents and visitors alike. I will continue to support and push for redevelopment of our neighborhood retail zones to make sure that Ward 2 remains a lively and vibrant area for all to enjoy.
